According to The Nation, Prof Mimiko has recently completed his term as Vice Chancellor of the Adekunle Ajasin University (AAU), Akungba-Akoko. Also, there have been rumours that he is eyeing the INEC chairmanship.
The Ondo state governor decided to react to recent speculations while speaking to reporters on February 15, 2015 in Akure, the state capital.
”I don’t know where the propaganda came from. It is not true; my brother did not apply for INEC job.
“Let me tell you, it is just propaganda from the opposition. If this is true, I should be in the best position to know. I don’t know what they want to gain from the rumour.

“President Jonathan had also denied that Prof Jega is to be removed from office, so it is a lie. Prof Mimiko did not apply or lobby for INEC job,” he said.
Commenting on the postponement of the general elections, Mimiko said that INEC was not adequately prepared for them, especially in the distribution of Permanent Voter Cards.
The Peoples Democtatic Party chairman, Dr Adamu Mu’azu, has recently clarified the party’s position regarding the INEC Chairman. According to him, the government have made a u-turn from its earlier stance and passed a vote of confidence in Jega.
